Social Narratives

People with autism often have challenges with social skills.  Social narratives are short or long stories that describe social situations, highlight cues, pair words with feelings and expectations, and assist the reader with responses to each scenario. Social narratives help to reduce anxiety by helping users understand expectations, develop language, and modify responses.  MindsUntapped provides Rescues as well as evidence-based Immersive Lessons for learning social skills.

Language and Communication

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder display a wide range of language and communication abilities. Communication may be restricted by many factors, but many opportunities exist for rapid skill advancement. Using technology and engaging activities, children often respond to stories, rich vocabulary, game play for learning, and more.  MindsUntapped Immersive Lessons include reciprocal communication interactions for mutual understanding and long-lasting results.

Life Skills

Life skills are competencies that facilitate (semi) independent living in communities.  Life skills include areas such as: money management, living options and room organization, nutrition and cooking, health, shopping, job skills, leisure/recreational interests, dating and friendships, respecting people and equipment, stress management, and transportation.  MindsUntapped Immersive Lessons will offer topics and training tools to maximize independence in these and other life skills areas.

ACADEMICS

MindsUntapped Immersive Lessons will extend to academic content areas. Evidence-based strategies delivered via contemporary technology that can be integrated into classrooms will be streamed via responsive platform. Video, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) reduce preparation time for facilitators and improve outcomes for users. Topics will have scope and sequence as well as alignment to academic content standards. Additional topics will include: use of routines, graphic organizers, organization of the environment, managing work tasks and assignments, suggestions for verbal and nonverbal communication with students, and tapping student strengths and interests.
